Important Financial Dates for 2025

From tax filing deadlines to retirement account contributions, the financial calendar is full of critical dates that can impact your economic well-being. Being aware of these deadlines not only helps avoid penalties and late fees, but also positions you to make the most of available benefits and tax advantages.

So as 2025 kicks into gear, here are the major financial dates to mark on your calendar—as well as some tips for finding discounts each month:

January

  • January 1: As we kick off the new year, the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period During this period, those who are already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan can either switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan or return to traditional Medicare. This enrollment period ends on March 31.
  • January 15: If you’re self-employed, today is the deadline to report tax estimates for the fourth quarter of 2024.
  • January 15: Today is the final day of Open Enrollment for plans on the Health Insurance Marketplace. This is your final day to enroll in, renew, or change your plan.
  • January 20: On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, most banks and financial institutions are closed. (While Quorum is open to serve you, transactions such as wire transfers, ACH, external transfers, check clearing, and deposits will not be available until the next business day).
  • January 21 – February 20: The first day of Lunar New Year begins. Be sure to budget wisely if you’re hosting reunion dinner or traveling to see family.
  • January 27 – 31st: Data Privacy Week is a global initiative designed to empower individuals and organizations to prioritize privacy, protect personal data, and build trust.

What to Buy: Stores in January tend to feature good deals on winter clothing, fitness gear, and linens. And with the NFL playoffs starting up, many electronics retailers have deals on TVs.

February

  • February 9: Super Bowl LVIII kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET in New Orleans. Be sure to budget ahead if you’re planning on throwing a party for the big game.
  • February 14: Love is in the air on February 14. If you’re planning a special gift or fancy meal for Valentine’s Day, be sure to factor that into your monthly financial planning.
  • February 17: In honor of President’s Day, banks and financial institutions across the country are closed. (While Quorum is open to serve you, transactions such as wire transfers, ACH, external transfers, check clearing, and deposits and will not be available until the next business day).

What to Buy: President’s Day is a great day to find discounts on mattresses, furniture, jewelry, and even cars.

March

  • March 17: Those with an S corp must file taxes about a month before others. You’ll file this using Form 1120-S, which is where you report income, gains, losses, deductions, and credits for your domestic corporation. This year the deadline falls on Monday, March 17.
  • March 31: The end of March marks the end of the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period. Existing Medicare Advantage beneficiaries looking to switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or to Original Medicare must do so by this date.

What to Buy: In general, the best deals on season-specific clothing happen after the season ends. So as we flip the calendar to spring, expect good deals on snow gear.

April

  • April 1 – 30: April is National Financial Literacy Month, a great time to brush up on the knowledge and skills necessary for sound financial decision-making.
  • April 12-20: Passover is one of the major Jewish holidays. It starts with a Passover Seder on April 12, which includes a ritual feast and lots of storytelling.
  • April 15: Tax Day is the last day to pay your tax bill and file your federal tax return. In states with income taxes, this is also the deadline to file state income taxes. If you’re waiting on paperwork or have a particularly complex financial situation, you may request an extension, which gives you another six months to file. But even if you request an extension to file, you still must pay taxes by April 15 or you will be subject to penalties and the IRS will charge you interest on any unpaid balance until you pay.
  • April 15: As tax season wraps up, the 15th is also the final day to make a 2024 IRA contribution. The IRA annual limit remains $7,000.
  • April 15: And if you’re a self-employed worker, don’t forget to file your Q1 tax estimates by April 15th.
  • April 20: Easter falls on April 20th this year, about three weeks later than it did in 2024. If you’re hosting or heading out to dinner, be sure to budget accordingly.

What to Buy: With spring cleaning in full swing, April is a great time to scour local donation drives, thrift stores, and yard sales for some second-hand treasures.

May

  • May 1 – 31: It’s Mental Health Awareness Month, a great time to reflect on how your finances may be affecting your mental health.
  • May 11: Spring is in full bloom, which means it’s time to celebrate Mother’s Day. If you’re giving her the gift of your presence, be sure to factor travel costs into your monthly budget.
  • May 26: Memorial Day honors those who gave their lives serving in the United States Armed Forces. Banks and financial institutions across the country are closed. (Quorum is closed; learn about all of the ways you can bank with us wherever you are.)
  • May 29: Today is National 529 Day, which reminds families that a 529 plan can be an effective way to save for future higher education costs. Learn more about the benefits of a 529 plan here.

What to Buy: May is a great time to buy mattresses, bedding, and appliances given all the Memorial Day discounts. Plus, spring is winding down, which means you might be able to find deals on spring apparel.

June

  • Graduation Season: If you’re traveling to see a loved one in their cap and gown, be sure to factor travel costs into your monthly budget. Need tips on graduation gifts? Click here.
  • June 15: Father’s Day is here. Whether you’re getting him some pricey golf clubs or a modest #1 Dad mug, be sure to keep Father’s Day in mind as you map out your monthly budget.
  • June 16: If you’re a self-employed worker, today is the deadline to file your Q2 tax estimate.
  • June 19: Juneteenth is a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Banks and financial institutions across the country are closed.   • June 30: Anyone heading to college, career school, or graduate school should turn in their FAFSA form by June 30, which may qualify you for financial aid.

What to Buy: To celebrate Father’s Day, many home improvement stores offer deals on tools and paint. It’s also the best time of year to find affordable, in-season produce.

July

  • July 4: Get some hot dogs on the grill in honor of Independence Day, which celebrates the establishment of the United States. Banks and financial institutions in the US are closed. (Quorum is closed; learn about all of the ways you can bank with us wherever you are.)
  • Mid-July: Though no definite date is nailed down yet, Amazon Prime Day usually falls in the middle of July. Expect Amazon to announce an exact date earlier in the summer.

What to Buy: With Prime Day landing in the middle of the month, July is a great time to find deals on electronics. You can also score deals on digital content like movies, TV shows, and eBooks. And as summer flies by, be on the lookout for deals on school supplies.

August

What to Buy: Fall is around the corner, which means it’s actually the best time to find deals on summer clothes and swimsuits. Many retailers also offer deals on storage supplies (e.g. containers, closet organizers) as students prepare to move into their college dorms.

September

  • September 1: The nation’s workers are honored on Labor Day. In observance, banks and financial institutions across the country are closed. (Quorum is closed; learn about all of the ways you can bank with us wherever you are.)
  • September 14: Any corrections and updates to your FAFSA application are due today.
  • September 15: If you’re self-employed, today is the deadline to file your Q3 tax estimate.
  • September 22: Rosh Hashanah marks the Jewish New Year. If you’re celebrating with family, you should budget for any festive meals you might be hosting.

What to Buy: Though it’s only September, the holidays are around the corner. Now might be the time to beat the holiday rush and score deals on airfare. And with summer almost gone, it’s a good time to find discounts on outdoor furniture and AC units.

October

  • October 1 – 31: It’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a great time to brush up on online safety and how to protect your data from cybercrime.
  • October 1: The holiest day on the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur is a day of fasting and asceticism, so you won’t need to budget for meals and gifts. (Unless, of course, you’re indulging in a pre-fast meal with friends and family.)
  • October 1: The first of October is typically when the FAFSA form goes live for the 2026-2027 academic year, though the 2025-2026 form was delayed until November/December in 2024. Keep tabs on the FAFSA site for the latest information throughout the year.
  • October 13: In honor of Indigenous People’s Day, banks and financial institutions across the United States are closed.   • October 15: If you need to file an extension on your federal taxes, today is the last day to do so.
  • October 15: The 2026 Open Enrollment Period for Medicare begins today and lasts until December 7.
  • October 16: Today is International Credit Union Day, which celebrates the rich history of credit unions and honors the contributions credit unions have made to society. It’s a good day to see if you might be eligible to join a credit union.
  • October 20: Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, kicks off on October 20th. If you’re partaking in these days of celebration and feasts, be sure to factor this into your monthly financial planning.
  • October 31: Halloween falls on a Friday this year, so expect plenty of celebrating. Be sure to budget for any costume- and candy-related costs.

What to Buy: The last quarter of the year is a great time to buy a car, as many dealerships are trying to clear inventory in anticipation of next year’s models. You can also score deals on the leftovers from back-to-school season, including discounted jeans.

November

  • November 1: Open Enrollment begins for Marketplace insurance plans on Healthcare.gov. During this period, you can enroll in, renew, or change health plans for the coming year. Open Enrollments lasts until January 15.
  • November 4: Americans are off to the polls for Election Day. Leading up to the big day, election scams are rampant. Always verify sites before donating and don’t share your personal information with unverified contacts.
  • November 11: Veterans Day honors those who’ve served in the United States Armed Forces. In their honor, banks and financial institutions across the country are closed.   • November 26: Quorum will close early at 5:00 p.m. ET.
  • November 27: Turkey Day is here. If you’re hosting Thanksgiving dinner for friends and family, be sure to include food costs in your monthly budgeting. (Thanksgiving is an official bank holiday. Quorum is closed; learn about all of the ways you can bank with us wherever you are.)
  • November 28: Black Friday kicks off the holiday shopping season. Will you brave the busy stores…or sit back and wait for Cyber Monday?

What to Buy: Black Friday is a great time to make those big-ticket purchases, especially when it comes to electronics, gaming consoles, and audio gear.

December

  • December 1: If you’re looking to score deals from the comfort of your couch, Cyber Monday is a must for savvy holiday shoppers.
  • December 2: Since 2012, Giving Tuesday has emerged as a “global generosity movement” that encourages people to do good in their community and give to causes that mean something to them. It’s a great day to make tax-deductible charitable donations before the end of the year.
  • December 24-25: Christmas is here. And while it’s a time for merriment, it can also get expensive. Look for discounts and don’t be surprised if your credit card bill is a bit higher in December. (Christmas is a national bank holiday.   • December 26: Kwanzaa is a celebration of African-American culture and history that lasts from today until January 1. If you’re celebrating, be sure to set aside some money for festive decorations and libations.
  • December 31: The end of the year marks the deadline for tax-deductible charitable donations. It’s also your last chance to max out your 401(k) contributions. It’s also New Year’s Eve, so if you’re hosting a party or just planning on sipping champagne with a loved one, be sure to budget accordingly.

What to Buy: Gifts, gifts, and more gifts. And right when Christmas ends, expect steep discounts on artificial Christmas trees, decor, and lights.
